Our Produce Department…
Quite Simply… The Freshest!
The secret of why our produce is…
"Quite Simply The Best!"
Ever wonder why, when you buy firm, red ripe tomatoes at Lunardi's and don't use them right away, they are still firm, red and ripe a week later? Or why Lunardi's fruits are so sweet? Or why Lunardi's vegetables hold up better in your refrigerator? It's because Lunardi's produce buyers got up early to arrive at 1 a.m. at our produce terminal in Northern California. Every weekday for the past 55 years, they hand pick the finest produce from the U.S. and other parts of the world.
Chain stores can't hand pick their produce. They buy in mass quantities, by the pallet, and don't get the best available in the market. Our buyers know the districts in California where the finest fruits come from. They know, with over 57 years experience, the certain times of the season which farmers have the best quality. Lunardi's buyers actually cut and taste the fruits they buy to make sure it meets our strict QUALITY IDEALS.
Lunardi's offers both ORGANIC and CONVENTIONALLY GROWN PRODUCE. Lunardi's produce personnel are highly skilled, and have the ability to provide hints and answers to your questions.
Organic Produce
Organic food is produced by farmers who emphasize the use of renewable resources and the conservation of soil and water to enhance environmental quality for future generations (USDA).
Certified organic food in the United States is grown according to standards set by the National Organic Program.
According to those standards, Organic food is produced without using most conventional pesticides; fertilizers made with synthetic ingredients or sewage sludge; bioengineering; or ionizing radiation. Organic meat, poultry, eggs, and dairy products come from animals that are given no antibiotics or growth hormones.
Before a product can be labeled "organic," a USDA accredited certifier inspects the farm where the food is grown to make sure the farmer is following all the rules necessary to meet USDA organic standards. Companies that handle or process organic food before it gets to your local supermarket or restaurant must be certified and inspected also.
Producers certified by CCOF have made the choice to grow and sell organic foods...CCOF supports this choice and you by providing information, resources and advocacy for organic food and agriculture. Please support the organic movement by supporting CCOF.
